Local Teen Author To Have Book Signings At WCPL

Warsaw teen author Amy Green will hold a book signing at Warsaw Community Public Library this month.

The program is Aug. 13 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at WCPL.

Green, 20, Warsaw, is a professional writing major at Taylor University, going into her junior year this fall.

The official release of her two books was early in July, when she went to the International Christian Retail Show with Warner Press.

The first book is “Quest for the Scorpion’s Jewel,” and the second is “Escape from Riddler’s Pass.” They were published by Warner Press.

She said she tried to pack as many exciting, action-packed words into the titles as possible.

“My roommate teases me that I pretty much cover the spectrum of dangers and natural disasters in my books, so that wasn’t too hard,” Green said.

She said the title of the first book changed a few times, but the second book was always the same.

These are the first two books she has had published.

She said she has more books planned in the series, but also is working on other projects. Right now, she is editing a science fiction book for teens and young adults.

Both books fit in the Christian fantasy category.

The first book, “Search for the Scorpion’s Jewel” is the story of Jesse, a crippled teenager, who joins an elite group of young people and journeys through the desert to complete a dangerous mission for the king.

In the second book, “Escape from Riddler’s Pass,” Jesse and his friends have to rescue their squad captain from the Rebellion prison deep in a maze-like cave. Both of them deal with hard questions about God and faith, the same that she said she asked when she was the age of her target audience.

Green’s twin sister is an elementary education major, and for her 18th birthday present, she asked for a kid’s book, so Green wrote “Quest for the Scorpion’s Jewel” for her when she was still in high school.

She completed a rough draft of the book and she had several other people make corrections: her mom, twin sister, roommate, suitemate and the fifth-graders in the small group she leads.

After that, she edited some more, fixing the bigger things like plot flaws and fine-tuning dialogue.

“Contrary to myth, lots of boring, old-fashioned hard work goes into writing,” Green said.

The target age for the book is ages 8-12, as well as teenagers.

Each book is $7.99 on amazon.com

The book also can be purchased at local Christian bookstores and at the book signing Aug. 13 at WCPL.

She encourages other young adults who are interested in writing to write.

“I discovered some old journals recently from junior high and high school where I moaned about how my writing wasn’t nearly as good as the books I was reading,” Green said.

She said she kept writing anyway, and that’s what got her to the point where she improved enough to get a book contract.

The editors at Warner Press told her that her books stood out because it fit their line of books and had virtually no technical errors.

She said she researched a lot of different companies to find out which one published books like hers.

She then edited her manuscript, going over it at least seven times herself and having other people read it.
