Melissa Brumfield Timmerman, Winona Lake, and her dad exchanged a dozen phone calls on Sept. 11 recounting the events in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.

Among the thousands of lives lost last month were New York police officers who risked and lost their lives to help others.

That hit close to home.

As the daughter of Sgt. Doug Brumfield, Warsaw Police Department, and sister of Doug Brumfield Jr., a deputy with Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Timmerman was filled with concern about the events of the day.

"Like everyone else, we did what we could to help - donating blood, praying for the victims' families and friends and showing our support for the nation by proudly displaying our flags," she said.

"My hope is these fallen police officers are never forgotten and we acknowledge they join countless others who have made the ultimate sacrifice."

Timmerman contacted Ed and Kim Roberts of Roberts Signs. With Ed's design the Roberts have produced T-shirts, sweatshirts and decals with net proceeds from each item going to the World Trade Center Police Disaster Relief Fund via the New York State Fraternal Order of Police Foundation.

Timmerman will be selling the shirts at upcoming bazaars: Oct. 6 at Warsaw Community High School from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Oct. 20 at Center Lake pavilion, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.; and Nov. 3 at the Walnut Creek United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For more information call Timmerman at 269-1349.
