A local home manufacturer, whose license was suspended in July, is currently being investigated by the Northern Indiana Better Business Bureau. On July 8, Joseph Callaghan, of Callaghan Homes and Fahl Homes, had his installer's license suspended by the Manufactured Homes Installer Board, which is a part of the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.
According to Debra Widemon, Manufactured Homes Installer board director, Callaghan faces a hearing after the state's Attorney General's Office forwarded a complaint that a home Callaghan built wasn't up to code.
Widemon said it's the first complaint the board has received against Callaghan.
The suspension keeps Callaghan from installing homes, though he can still sell them.
Widemon said the suspension of Callaghan's license was for 90 days and after the suspension Callaghan will be on probation.
An official with the Northern Indiana Better Business Bureau confirmed that Callaghan is being investigated by their Bureau and a hearing is scheduled to review findings for the board of directors in Fort Wayne next week.
"We had some issues with the home. We tried to work it out with the homeowner, but the model was discontinued by the manufacturer," said Callaghan about the home that lead to his license being suspended. "After some discussion, we settled on a $10,000 discount with the homeowner. At close, the homeowner moved into the house. After 60 days, I put a lien on his house for non-payment."
The lien is in Wabash County where the home in question is located.
Callaghan stated he still has a dealer and retailer license. He has owned his the business for 19 years.
