Local High School Sports Recaps For 9/27

Girls Golf Regional 

The girls golf season came to an end for all but one individual in Kosciusko County on Friday, as Tippecanoe Valley sophomore Savana Miller advanced to next week’s state finals by shooting a 76 and finishing in the top three individuals advancing without a team. 

This comes a week after Miller set a school record by shooting a 74 at the Warsaw sectional to win it. Speaking of the Lady Tigers, they were also in attendance as the only local team to advance out of the sectional. The team shot a 338 to finish in sixth place. 

Anya Puthucode led the team  by shooting a 78. Sophie Stewart and Vivian Piecuch both shot 85s. Addisyn Aylor shot a 90, while Lilly Henderson rounded things out with a 94. 

The state finals will take place on Friday and Saturday at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

Football 

Wawasee at Goshen 

Wawasee is still searching for its first conference win after falling 24-15 to Goshen on the road Friday night. The Warriors are now 1-5 this fall, 0-4 in the Northern Lakes Conference. 

No statistics were available for the game. Wawasee is at home against winless Northridge on Friday. 

Manchester at Southwood 

For the second straight week, Manchester was able to get out to a big lead early and cruise to a victory. The Squires defeated Southwood 46-7 on the road Friday night to move to 4-2 this season, 4-1 in the Three Rivers Conference. 

No statistics were available for the game. Manchester is at Whitko on Friday. 

Whitko at Lewis Cass 

Whitko dropped its fifth straight game on Friday night, falling 48-13 on the road at Lewis Cass. The Wildcats are now 1-5 this fall, 0-5 in the TRC.

Triton at North Judson 

Triton battled valiantly, but came up just short in a hard-fought 10-7 loss to North Judson on Friday. The Trojans are now 4-2 this season, 3-1 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference. 

No statistics were available for this game. Triton is at home against Caston on Friday. 

Volleyball

Warsaw at Warsaw Invitational 

Warsaw took first place at their home invitational on Saturday, defeating Bishop Dwenger, Fairfield and West Noble to win the Warsaw Invitational. The Lady Tigers are now 22-4 this fall. 

CeCe Goode led the team with 21 kills on the day, while Reagan Edwards and Maddie Williamson each had 18. Avary Hoeppner had 40 assists and five aces. Ellie Hepler had 37 digs. Madison Branam added 21. 

Warsaw is at NorthWood on Thursday. 

Boys Soccer

Warsaw at Wawasee 

Warsaw picked up a dominant win on Saturday, defeating Wawasee 11-1 on the road. The Tigers improve to 8-5-1 this season, while the Warriors fall to 1-12.

Blackford at Lakeland Christian 

Lakeland Christian picked up a big win on Saturday, defeating Blackford 6-1 at home. The Cougars are now 9-4 this fall. 

Jashawn Zielasko had three goals. Noah Higham, Jorge Gerber and Kolton Shepherd each scored once. 

LCA is at Canterbury on Tuesday. 

Girls Soccer 

Warsaw at Wawasee

The Warsaw girls soccer team put on a dominant performance on Saturday, defeating Wawasee 15-0. The Lady Tigers move to 7-4-1 this season, while the Lady Warriors fall to 0-13-1.

Lola Pepper led the way with four goals. Amy Escuita-Palacios, Maya Bodiker and Lylah Williaman each scored twice. Evie Pepper, Annaka Scholl and Gracie Boren all added a goal as well. 

Warsaw is at Carroll on Tuesday. 

Boys Tennis 

Warsaw at NLC Championships 

Warsaw picked up a third place finish at the NLC championships this past weekend. 

Leading the way was No. 3 singles player Ted Grandon, who finished first in his tournament. No. 2 Charlie Norton finished in second, while the No. 1 doubles pairing of Spencer Love and Luke Smith took third. 

Cross Country 

Warsaw at New Haven Invite 

The Tigers traveled to Huntington University to compete in the New Haven Invitational, finishing 10th out of 21 teams. Juniors Nolan Stump (18:11.2) and Jaxon Lehman (18:11.3) led the way with 48th and 49th-place finishes. Senior Sam Allebach rounded out the top three in 66th (18:38.7), followed by Junior Jack Boggs (73rd, 18:45.4), Junior Alex Hoover (75th, 18:46.9), Sophomore Keenan Lyions (79th, 18:50.7), and Junior Owen Meerzo (87th, 18:59.3). Warsaw was without its top runner, who was away on a college recruiting visit.

The Warsaw Lady Tigers delivered a gritty performance at the New Haven Invite, hosted at Huntington University, finishing 3rd overall against a highly competitive field. Facing Indiana’s #2-ranked Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran and #4-ranked Homestead, the Tigers showed their depth and toughness, tallying 109 points and finishing a decisive 33 points ahead of 4th place Bishop Dwenger.

Leading the charge was senior Sammi Rastrelli, who claimed 4th overall with a strong front-running effort. Freshman Dani Rastrelli proved her consistency with another top-10 finish, crossing the line 9th overall. Senior Eden Metz once again provided a steadying presence in the third scoring spot, finishing 23rd overall. Fellow senior Hannah Fisher ran tough to secure the Tigers’ 4th scoring spot in 34th place, while sophomore Katie Robertson stepped up as the team’s 5th scorer in 51st. Juniors and seniors filled in tightly behind, with Savannah Purdy (54th) and Abi Marsh (56th) closing out Warsaw’s top seven.
