Local Halloween Costume Sales BoomingHalloween is a week away and local retailers are seeing children, teenagers, and adults shopping for the perfect costume to celebrate.
Joe and Joyce Conlon, owners of Celebrations, 106 E. Center St., Warsaw, said they have costumes for rent and sale.
Celebrations sells and offers rental services for costumes for teenagers and men's and women's adult costumes in sizes small to extra large.
People can rent costumes for a three-day period ranging from $25-$75. A deposit is required."We have many returning customers who come in September to check out our costume selection early and rent what they want then," Joyce said.
Joyce said the business purchases the costumes from professional costume stores in California and New York City.
Joyce said couples costumes are popular every year. The store has super hero couple's costumes like Batman and Catwoman and Superman and Supergirl, Wizard of Oz characters, and 1920s gangster and flapper costumes.
Rocky Horror Picture Show and hippie costumes are popular with teenagers.
Joyce said the business sold a Barack Obama mask Friday afternoon, but does not have any more of the mask.
Masks, hats, wigs, and makeup also are sold by the business.
The business will do people's makeup for a fee on Halloween.
Celebrations store hours are Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p m., Saturdays from 10 to 1 p.m. and on Halloween from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Gary Elders, Walmart manager, Warsaw, said costume and candy sales have been good since the first of October.
He said children's costumes go first and popular costumes are princess costumes like Belle, Ariel and Cinderella.
Todd Reynolds, K-Mart store manager, Warsaw, said costume sales have been steady since the first of October.
He said K-Mart has costumes for children, teens, and adults. He said television character costumes for children such as Hannah Montana, Disney, and Jonas Brothers costumes are selling well.
