Two local dentists are teaming up with Garth Brooks, an internationally acclaimed recording artist, and several other dentists to help thousands of children across the nation.
Dr. Bryan E. Spilmon and Dr. William Myers are participating in Smiles for Life Foundation, a charity campaign to benefit children. The campaign is running through May.
In the past, the campaign has raised more than $4.5 million. The local dentists are donating a tooth-whitening procedure. The patients receiving this treatment are invited to donate the cost of the whitening to the Smiles for Life Foundation. The proceeds from this year's campaign are expected to be more than $5 million.
The Smiles for Life Foundation, with the help of Garth Brook's Touch 'em All Foundation, will donate 100 percent of the contributed funds to benefit kids.
Both local dentists are members of the Crown Council, an alliance of dentists throughout North America who subscribe to a continually rising standard of dental care.
The tooth whitening procedure involves preparing a mold of the patient's teeth so that a customized whitening tray can be created and worn at home. Discus Dental, manufacturer of Nite White and Day White, is donating the whitening product to dentists participating in the charity campaign.
Spilmon and Myers agree that tooth whitening is one of the most requested dental procedures in the country. They also said it is uncomplicated for the patient and adds considerably to the appearance of the recipient.
"It's a great campaign and all to help kids," Spilmon said.
