Kosciusko County could see a large technology boost in the near future.
Network Computer Solutions President Mark Marley said his company plans to tap into a fiber optic line that runs from Indianapolis to South Bend to bring the technology to the county.
"We're bringing a service to the community that hasn't ever been offered before," Marley said. "We're looking at something that will provide a redundant connection to the Internet throughout Kosciusko."
The fiber optics line, a massive conduit of thin, transparent threads used for telecommunication capabilities, could help boost online activities for local businesses and residents interested in faster connection speeds.
Fiber optics lines have been in place throughout the county for some time, Marley said, but these lines have remained dormant and unused. By activating the lines through the larger fiber conduit, the fiber capabilities can be utilized at the local level.
Though a small number of Warsaw companies currently use fiber optics, they stream the access through private in-house lines which link different plant locations.
Marley's service will be the first public offering of the service.
"The real advantage will be the availability of what we have to offer," he said. "We'll see a larger capacity and scalable bandwidth that companies can take advantage of."
Network Solutions currently offers wireless services to many areas of the county, including Warsaw, Mentone, Clunette, Silver Lake and Claypool.
And by being the only provider for these locations, Marley hopes to etch out communication deals with larger corporations interested in the fiber capabilities.
"We have a lot of interest from the county already," he said. "A large amount of smaller businesses are looking for higher bandwidth, which we'll be able to offer."
Services such as overseas video conferencing and internet telephone services will be vastly improved through the fiber optics link.
