Local Attorney Kolbe To Run For State Rep. Dist. 22 Seat

David C. Kolbe announced today that he has formed an exploratory committee for his candidacy in the 2014 election for Indiana House of Representatives for District 22 as a Democrat. He has also filed his candidacy with the Indiana Secretary of State, Elections Division. Kolbe has practiced law in Warsaw since 1981 after receiving his juris doctor in that year from Valparaiso University School of Law. He is a 1977 graduate of Indiana University, South Bend, with a bachelor’s degree in modern European history after two years at DePauw University. Kolbe served as prosecuting attorney for Kosciusko County from 1995 to 1998. He has taught American politics for Indiana University/Purdue University, Fort Wayne, for many years and is currently a senior visiting professor for the Center for International Legal Studies in Salzburg, Austria. His mission has been to travel to former Soviet bloc countries and teach rule of law to law students in European universities. He has taught in Ukraine, Latvia, Poland and Hungary. He travelled to Cuba on a diplomatic and legal mission in 2002. He also travelled to Russia and Estonia in 1992 with Josh McDowell Ministries. He had been invited by the center to travel to Salzburg, Austria in March 2014 to serve as instructor to incoming senior visiting professors. Kolbe has previously served on the Kosciusko Juvenile Justice Task Force (vice president), Kosciusko Community YMCA Board of Directors (president), Kosciusko County Bar Association (vice president), Democrats for Life of America (national board member), Kosciusko County Right to Life (board member), and City County Athletic Complex (current board member). He is a member of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association and the Indiana State Bar Association and has written and published numerous legal and political articles. Kolbe has been married to Kathy for 30 years. She is a musician and current keyboard accompanist for Tippecanoe Valley and Warsaw Community Schools and is an organist at Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw. They are the parents of seven children. Kolbe embraces the Quaker tradition.
