Literacy Group Gives Bosses A Chance To Recognize Staff

Business managers and owners from around the county will have a chance to recognize the people who work for them next month at Kosciusko Literacy Services' staff appreciation luncheon.

Scheduled for April 25 at Westminster Hall in Winona Lake, the event will feature a gourmet meal catered by Buffalo Street Emporium, said Brenda Rigdon, executive director of KLS.

"What we're trying to do is provide a nice gourmet luncheon on Secretary's Day for staff people who get overlooked on Secretary's Day," Rigdon said.

The luncheon is a fund-raiser for KLS. It will include piano music during the meal of chilled berry soup, fruit or pasta salad, creamed chicken in puff pastry, assorted breads or muffins and dessert.

During dessert Dr. Steve Grill, of Grace College, will host the KLS version of "Let's Make a Deal," Rigdon said, giving out door prizes donated by area companies, such as jewelry, a DVD player, a digital camera and an electronic organizer, to name just a few.

At each place setting will be a children's book with a sticker for the luncheon attendee to fill out, donating the book in their name to the Healthy Families program at Cardinal Center and to the BABE store "To give to underprivileged kids," Rigdon said.

The luncheon will start at noon; "we're hoping to get everybody back to work in 1-1/2 hours," she said. The cost is $35 per person ($26 of that is a tax deductible charitable contribution) and reservations will be accepted for the first 200 people.

To make reservations, call KLS at 267-5380 before April 11.
