Local life coach Lila Shelburne will lead a program that will assist people to reach their goals in 2013. The free program is titled “New Goals – New You” and will be at Warsaw Community Public Library Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. Shelburne, Warsaw, has been a life coach for the past 10 years. Shelburne will provide attendees with a life-coaching experience in a group setting. It is an informational meeting where people can ask questions on life coaching. “Life coaching is solution-focused conversations determined by the client,” Shelburne said during an interview. A coach focuses on issues the client wants to focus on. “Life coaching takes time and you don’t get to where you want to be over night and you don’t get a fast solution,” Shelburne said. Shelburne is a certified life coach who received certification from Erickson College International, Vancouver, Wash. She took a course, International Coaching Federation, and became certified as a life coach. “Mentoring is taking someone down the same road they have gone teaching a skill,” Shelburne said. Shelburne said the main thing in being a life coach is taking people forward and not looking to someone’s past as counseling does. “There is no diagnosis or illness, but taking people forward to help them identify their passions, visions and goals,” Shelburne said. “The first of the year people are making New Year’s resolutions, but often they get stuck,” Shelburne said. She said common reasons people don’t reach their goals is that they don’t have a strong enough reason or motivation to reach their goals. Shelburne provides life coaching for a fee in business, relationships, finances and healthy lifestyle choices.
