LEESBURG – During its December meeting Monday, the Leesburg Town Council approved a raise for its street commissioner and requested that E-One attend the January meeting.
Council members Doug Jones and Jerry Richey voted unanimously to approve the 2012 salary ordinance, which granted Leesburg Street Commissioner Brandon Queen a raise for 2012. Queen was slated to earn $26,000 for 2012, but after the ordinance he could make up to $28,000.
“By putting down $28,000 we are leaving wiggle room to decide what the raise will be,” said Jones. “Just because we say he could earn $28,000 does not mean he will. We still need to have his evaluation and come to a consensus of what he deserves.”
The ordinance only granted Queen a raise for 2012, all other positions were unchanged.
“The clerk and the wastewater clerk both said they did not see money in the budget to give themselves a raise,” Jones said.
In stark contrast to November's meeting, Derek Tenney, of Tenney and Sons Septic Tank Cleaning Inc., told the council that he has had a few challenges with the grinder pumps, but not as many as they did before.
“We had two break downs in the last month,” Tenney said. “As of tonight we have changed over 13 percent of the grinder pump switches. If we continue to have issues with these switches, E-One might send a tech to go from one side of the town to the other and fix all of them.”
After Tenney reported to the council, Jones and Richey asked Tenney to invite a representative from E-One, the company that makes the grinder pumps, to come speak to the council about the status of the situation. Tenney agreed and said he would try to contact them to invite them to the Jan. 9 meeting.
Jan Carter informed the council that the Carters will give a $50 gift certificate to the prettiest lights in Leesburg
In closing, the council wanted to inform everyone that there is no parking on the street from the hours of 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. Violators will be towed at their own expense.
