Leesburg Moves on Street Repairs

Posted
LEESBURG – Repairing the streets in Leesburg was the main focus of the town council meeting Monday evening.
Street Commissioner Brandon Queen gave the board two quotes, one for asphalt work and one for concrete padding with a 42 foot curb. He said these streets include Church and Yvonna streets and Rolland Avenue. Queen said these streets will be finished with an inch and a half top coat of asphalt.
The board accepted the quote from Phend & Brown of $17,614.50 to begin the asphalt portion. It also accepted the quote from Butt & Timmons Construction to add concrete curbs at the end of the streets for $6,600. The board wants to begin this project with the concrete curb portion on Church Street because it is so heavily traveled on. The companies are being notified they won the bids this morning.
This project doesn’t have a start date, but once the concrete portion is finished, traffic will not be allowed to travel for 10-15 days.
“We need to get the street fixed up so it’s good for the 25 years,” board president Tom Moore said.
Queen also said that if anyone has any leftover leaves from the season to bag them up, and he reminds the town not to leave grass clippings in the street from mowing.
Jerry Clevenger, of Clevenger Insurance Agency, updated the board on the diesel fuel spill in March near Stacy’s Sports Inn at 309 S. Main St. He said he is waiting on environmental study results, but more information should be available within the next 10 days.
“We’ve gone out of our way to make sure everyone involved is happy,” member Doug Jones said.
Moorse also said as a reminder, there is no burning of anything at any time in town and there is no parking on any street between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. The town garage sale is set for June 19 and 20 and the town clean-up is set for June 26 and 27. The next regular meeting is set for 6:30 p.m.  June 8.
