Leesburg Man Arrested After Firing 'Warning Shot'

Posted

LEESBURG - A Leesburg man was taken into custody Tuesday evening after allegedly firing a handgun into the ground outside his residence.

Timothy Wilber Yarber, 25, of 112 E. Van Buren St. #1, told officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department that he wanted to scare off a man and his teen-age son who were reportedly threatening to beat up two juveniles in the neighborhood, so he fired a "warning shot" into the ground.

Yarber's wife called police at 5:57 p.m. Tuesday when her husband and the man began to argue. The gunshot was allegedly fired after police were summoned.

According to a police report, Yarber said the man and his son were in a van and when he told them to leave the boys alone, they allegedly began to yell and curse at him. When the vehicle stopped, Yarber said he picked up a pipe for protection and when he saw that the other man had a holstered gun in his hand, he went inside and got his gun.

Yarber allegedly fired one shot from his .45-caliber weapon before putting it back inside.

Police also spoke with the other man, but no charges were filed against him.

Yarber is being held without bond in the Kosciusko County Jail on a charge of criminal recklessness. Additional charges may be filed.
