Leesburg Council Meets New Clerk, Searfoss

Posted
LEESBURG – The Leesburg town council introduced the new town clerk, Mike Searfoss during their June meeting. Mike replaces Jan Carter who resigned due to health issues.
In old business, the town council further reviewed the town’s water billing ordinance and found that there is in fact no discrepancy between the ordinance and due dates and found no need to revise the amendment.
The town also expressed thanks to Sue Charlton and Sue Richey for their efforts to put on the Memorial Day parade, even though the parade was rained out.
Street commissioner Brandon Queen reported that 70% of the new street signs have been installed and will soon be completed. He also presented a bid from Phend and Brown to fix streets in town that require repair beyond the town’s ability. The board approved the $13,240 bid.
Derek Tenney with the sanitary/sewer report stated two pumps were down and set to be repaired within a week.
Tenney also discussed with the board the new Leesburg Mercantile on their classification. The town plans to determine what the state license has them classified as, which will effect the rates.
In new business, the town discussed setting a date for the 2014 budget workshop. No date was set as the board will coordinate schedules.
The board also found that the ordinances have nothing relating to tire storage, but will look into state laws which could be enforced by the town.
The council will meet again July 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the town hall.
