Leesburg Council Approves Memorial Day Parade

Posted
LEESBURG – Leesburg Town Council Monday approved the town’s annual Memorial Day parade.
Sue Charlton, parade organizer, said the parade will begin after the flag raising ceremony at 10:30 a.m. May 30 at the Leesburg Cemetery.
The parade route will be Pearl Street to Prairie Street to Leesburg Cemetery. A service will follow the parade at the cemetery.
Charlton thanked Kuert Concrete Inc. and Butt and Timmons Construction Inc. for donating a speaker at the cemetery.
The council heard garage sales in town are June 17 and 18 and town clean-up is June 24 and 25.
Doug Jones, council president, informed the council Greg Cobb, Freedom Oil CEO, purchased and donated a lighted torch that is displayed now through October at the Citgo gas station on Ind. 15 in Leesburg. The torch is to commemorate Indiana’s bicentennial. The torch will join others that will be on display Sept. 30 to Oct. 1 at the Kosciusko County Courthouse.
Brandon Queen, street superintendent, said there has been an issue with residents not bagging their trash before putting it into garbage cans.
He said there is a violation at 113 E. Van Buren St. of trash in the yard, which is a public health and safety concern.
The council will review quotes at its next meeting for paving Yvonna Street and Rowland Avenue. The council will look into seeking grants to pay for the projects.
