LEESBURG – Leesburg Town Clerk-Treasurer Jan Carter has resigned from the position due to health reasons. Carter, a Democrat, has served in the position for the past 2-1/2 years. Carter submitted her resignation letter to the council following the April 11 council meeting. No plans have been announced at this time to replace Carter. Carter said she notified Terry Bartley, Kosciusko County Democrat chairman, in a letter that she resigned. During a telephone interview this morning, Carter said she has kidney failure and is on dialysis. “I love Leesburg and would have liked to have completed my term and then let someone else run for the position, but having dialysis four times a day conflicts with my job,” Carter said. Carter said Deputy Clerk Shanna Maust has been overseeing the clerk-treasurer’s office until the clerk-treasurer seat is filled. Carter said she has lived in Leesburg with her husband, Ted, for 22 years.
