LeeAnne Stewart Dancers Ready For National CompetitionWhile many around Kosciusko County will be celebrating the Fourth Of July on the lakes or at backyard barbecues, 27 kids from Lee Anne Stewart's Dance School will be in a national competition.
After competing in regional competition in Chicago with 350 other dancers, the group from Lee Anne Stewart's was able to score high enough to move on to Dance America July 3-6 at Disney World in Orlando.
The group has been practicing three nights a week.
They have been doing performances based on songs from the Broadway adaptation of the movie "9 to 5".
There also will be a hip-hop number as well as tap dancing routine and jazz routine.
But their work doesn't stop after practice.
The kids have been doing all sorts of fundraisers. From car washes to garage sales to selling candles and coupons, the group is trying to make sure they have enough to cover the hotel, travel, competition, classes and food.
This is Stewart's 37th year as an instructor and she works closely with her daughter, Meghann, to get the kids ready for competitions.
With the kids doing competitions, she charges "just enough to keep the lights on."
She also said she's excited for the kids to have a chance to go.
Last year her group went to New York City and Myrtle Beach.
And while the Dance America is a competition, it also gives the kids chances to take classes and become better dancers, according to Stewart.
The dancers from Syracuse, Nappanee, Leesburg, Warsaw, Milford and North Webster are: Katie Acton, Katie Allen, Allison Baker, Courtney Bilinksi, Tia Croy, Haiden Evans, Randa Evans, Jenna France, Nate France, Alexa Grendys, Natalie Klotz, Amanda Matthews, Alyssa Merryman, Brooke Miller, Courtney Miller, Reegan Miller, Taylor Pieper, Maddy Reeder, Zoe Roberts, Hannah Schultz, Madison Stapleton, Katie Stephenson, Ashley Stump, Alexis Turner, Mia Warstler, Whitney Wright and Sarah Wysong.
Stewart has two schools, one in Syracuse and one in Nappanee
