Jim Lancaster and Terry Howie won the two contested races for the Winona Lake Town Council during Tuesday's primary.

Lancaster received 50.92 percent of the votes for District 3, defeating Jim LeMasters and Jerry Nelson.

Lancaster said although he won the primary, he would like to see higher voter turnout in the November election.

Voter turnout for Winona Lake during Tuesday's primary was 19.46 percent. There were 108 of the 555 registered voters who voted in the Winona Lake primary.

"I would like to see more community involvement in residents making more of an effort to vote in the November election," Lancaster said.

He said if he is elected in the fall, he looks forward to working with the council and helping the community.

Howie defeated Clevenger, receiving 51.49 percent of the votes for District 2.

Howie was at the Justice Building when the results came in and described Clevenger as a good friend of his. He said he would seek advice from Clevenger in dealing with issues the town will address if he is elected.

"I look forward to working with the council to better the community," Howie said.
