Lakeland Regional Sewer District Discusses Pros, Cons Of Joining With North Webster

Posted
NORTH WEBSTER - Lakeland Regional Sewer District board spent much of its first meeting in 2009 discussing the pros and cons of joining North Webster's sewer system.

The board heard from Andy Dodzik, DLZ Engineering. Dodzik told the board that since the last meeting he visited North Webster's treatment plant.

Dodzik and the board discussed the advantages of joining North Webster's sewer system."You would not be part owners, you'd be a customer," Dodzik told the board.

He also told the board that he thought, at this time, North Webster might be a more viable option.

Board member Bob Sanders brought up the liability issue of Lakeland having its own facility.

"If we go with North Webster and there is a problem, the cost would be passed on to us anyway," said board member Stewart Lambert.

Dodzik said entering an agreement with North Webster would most likely entail signing a 40-year contract, though that contract could be worded in ways the board wanted.

The contract also could be broken, for a nominal fee, at any point should it be decided Lakeland wants its own plant.

Dodzik also assured the board that their plan won't be slowed down by any decision Chapman Lake or Tippecanoe Lake property owners decide to make on their wastewater situation, but that they need to know what those two areas want by about May.

The board also approved the minutes from their last meeting and heard the treasurer's report and a budget for 2009. Though the board approved the budget, they are not required by the state board of accounts to provide one.

The board also approved office lease insurance for their office at the North Webster Community Center.
