Posted

Mike Kubacki, president of Lake City Bank, announced at a May luncheon at the home of Sara Lee Levin that Lake City Bank would sponsor "Evening Viewing of the Gardens," a fund-raiser for the Warsaw Biblical Gardens, June 23, just before Warsaw's City of Lakes Festival.

Kubacki said, "Lake City Bank has established a tradition of supporting the community and appreciates the importance of treasures such as the Biblical Gardens. The Warsaw Biblical Gardens, established in 1986 on a site donated by the Meyer Levin family, is one of only a few in the world. We recognize that an event such as this, working with the Biblical Gardens board, Village at Winona¨ and MasterWorks Festival, is what makes our community one that provides the quality of life young families, long-time residents and prospective new residents are looking for."

The event will be June 23, beginning with a wine and cheese reception at 5:30 p.m. in the Biblical Gardens. Dinner and music will follow at 6:30 p.m. in the Center Lake Pavilion. A gourmet picnic basket will be provided to guests to enjoy as they listen to music provided by the MasterWorks Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Patrick Kavanaugh. A picnic blanket, provided by Lake City Bank, also will be given to those in attendance. Invitations are in the mail. Garden attire is suggested.

Kavanaugh is the executive director of the Christian Performing Artists' Fellowship, the artistic director of the MasterWorks Festival and recently was named chair of the music department at Grace College. He regularly conducts with the MasterWorks Festival Orchestra and conducted many premieres of his own works, which include a variety of genres from orchestra and chamber music to opera and electronic music. He has appeared as a conductor at the Kennedy Center, Constitution Hall, the Center for the Arts and many other concert halls. He was the first American conductor invited to conduct an opera at Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre. He received his master's and doctor's degrees in music from the University of Maryland.

Kavanaugh announced the musical presentations will include soloist Karen Wilder singing a suite of five Gershwin songs. He said, "Karen is a soprano with a phenomenal voice. She can sing everything from opera to Broadway. I'm excited to have her with us, as she will be moving to Germany shortly after this performance to pursue work in opera."

Village at Winona participants include the Boathouse Restaurant, ClockTower Bakery, Vintage France and Rabb Kinetico Water Services. Brent Wilcoxson was instrumental in bringing together the Village at Winona merchants, the MasterWorks Festival and the Warsaw Biblical Gardens to showcase the educational, cultural and unique shopping opportunities available in the community.

Seven local artists have donated pieces of artwork to the silent auction, which will be held during the evening. They are: "Trillium," a watercolor by Terry Armstrong; a hand-blown glass vessel by Duane Darland; "Music in the Garden," an original pencil drawing by Robert Hudson; a garden and fountain watercolor by Steve Johnson; a landscape pastel by Mike Kelly; "Sedium," a watercolor by Jennifer Ortega; and a mixed media figure by Mary Pat Wallen.

The Evening Viewing of the Gardens and musical concert committee includes: Norma Ferguson, Jane Grossnickle, Patricia Lenke, Connie Rufenbarger, Cathy Teghtmeyer and Erin Williams. Advisors are Warsaw Mayor Ernest Wiggins and Kavanaugh. Co-chairs for the even are Rebecca Kubacki, Saralee Levin and Brent Wilcoxson.
