Lack Of Change Orders Concerns Pierceton Council

Posted

PIERCETON - Town Council President Jerry Kreger wants to meet with R.E. Crosby and Schnelker Engineering representatives regarding the sewer project.

The final bill has been presented, but no change orders were issued either as additions or subtractions to the $1.8 million project.

Payment was delayed until a meeting could be set up.

In February 2005, Stan Adams of the Indiana Data Center, Fort Wayne, asked the board for permission to install a broadband radio antenna on the water tower.

He said the company provides service to IPFW in Warsaw, but reception is so poor that many classes broadcast from Fort Wayne to the Warsaw building had been canceled.

Installation at the water tower would enhance reception for the college.

He offered the town free Internet access in exchange for the water tower rental. The board agreed to the relay system.

Since then no relays were installed and no Internet service was provided.

Kreger said the town will seek another high-speed Internet provider.

A letter will be sent to resident Catherine Smith, 407 S. First St., to advise her she needs a valve installed in her sewer line to avoid backup into her basement.

Smith attended last month's meeting when two town council members were absent. She said Public Works Supervisor Chip Hill dug up her yard and she wanted it repaired. She also wanted the town to cover damages done when sewage backed up into her basement earlier this summer. In September, she was advised no decision could be made due to lack of a quorum.

Last night, Kreger said she was responsible for repairs, had to get a flapper valve, and the town wouldn't be assisting with her line, from inside the house to the street, any longer.

The letter will indicate Smith's basement floor drain violates town ordinances.

A letter will be sent to the Whitko School Corp. regarding food and other materials from the Pierceton Elementary School clogging a sewer line.

Grease, chunks of unchopped food, rags and other items were photographed in a lift station near the school.

Kreger said school officials are telling him it's not their problem.

The board also:

• Heard from town marshal Tim Sammons that two reserve officers nearly have mandatory training hours complete.

• Set trick-or-treat hours were set as 6 to 7:30 p.m., Oct. 31.

• Announced leaf pickup begins Monday.

Town council members are Kreger, Bob Tenney and Mandy Espinoza.
