INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Rebecca Kubacki (R-Syracuse) chaired the State Commission on Improving the Status of Children meeting in Indianapolis on Wednesday. Kubacki has served on the commission since it was established in 2013. “As many people know, protecting Indiana’s most vulnerable has always been an important issue I’ve tried to address as a legislator,” Kubacki said. “The commission’s vision is that every child in Indiana will have a safe and nurturing environment and be afforded opportunities to grow into healthy and productive adults.” The multi-branch, statewide commission was created through Senate Enrolled Act 125. Kubacki was co-sponsor of the law in 2013. Each year, the commission studies different issues concerning vulnerable youth and then makes recommendations to the Indiana General Assembly about possible legislation to address some of these concerns. “Children depend on us, and it is our responsibility to ensure that they grow up in a safe and stable environment. Additionally, as state leaders, we must encourage and support services that help Hoosier children reach their full potential,” Kubacki said. In addition to Kubacki, members of the executive committee include: Indiana Department of Child Services Director Mary Beth Bonaventura, State Senator Travis Holdman (R-Markle), Indiana Supreme Court Justice Loretta Rush and Gov. Pence’s Senior Policy Director Doctor Ryan Streeter.
