Kosciusko Red Cross to Hold Volunteer Boot Camp

Posted
With the recent spate of disasters that have swept throughout our country this past year, the Kosciusko County Chapter of the American Red Cross will be conducting a new volunteer “Boot Camp” to provide the training required for local individuals to be prepared to join a Red Cross Disaster Relief Operation anywhere in the nation.

The Boot Camp will be held Nov. 12 at the Kosciusko County Red Cross Chapter building at 320 N. Buffalo St.,  Warsaw. Training will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run through 4:30 p.m. The day will consist of two classroom sessions –  Disaster Services Overview and Shelter Operations, followed by a simulation where new volunteers will practice their skills in setting up and preparing a shelter for use in a disaster operation. On Sunday, a client casework class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the same location.

Current volunteers and anyone who would like to volunteer in the event of a disaster is encouraged to register immediately, as seats are limited. Completing this training will give our local community members the tools to make a difference in an emergency.

There is still room to join the class and become Red Cross Ready. Call the Chapter at 574.267.5244 to sign up.
