Kosciusko Government Entities Might Receive June Tax Distribution

Posted
Kosciusko County's trending paperwork seems to be somewhat in order now and government entities might, just might, receive their June 30 tax distributions on that date.

That's if everyone puts their nose to the grindstone and all the pieces fall into place, said County Auditor Sue Ann Mitchell to county council members Thursday.Tax bills may go out later and the collection may be later than usual, but the end-of-June distribution may still be feasible.

Mitchell said Thursday she had come prepared to ask for approval of a provisional tax billing from the council.

The auditor said she would know more and be able to make a recommendation by the next council meeting, April 12.

The delay in the state's approval of the tax levy came about because the Local Department of Government Finance didn't receive the county's trending and market value information until months after the Aug. 1 deadline, and then several items were out of compliance.

County Assessor Laurie Renier said the county's levy has now been approved.

Mitchell said because Fulton County is still behind, the Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. townships' billing probably will be late.

David Doctor, who has spearheaded the application for a Lakeland Sewer District formation, gave an update about the district.

He said a petition has been filed with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and a public hearing will be scheduled in late summer.

A board cannot be appointed until the district order is approved, however, Doctor would like an interim board established so planning may proceed.

He said he will have recommendations for a seven-member temporary board at the next council meeting.

County council members are Harold Jones, Charlene Knispel, Tom Anglin, Larry Teghtmeyer, Bob Sanders, Brad Tandy and John Kinsey.
