Nominations for the Heart of Gold awards are being taken now through March 15.
Kosciusko County Foundation and the Kosciusko Leadership Academy will present the fourth annual Heart of Gold awards on April 18.
The awards identify and recognize "everyday" citizens in the community who touch the hearts of others.
Heart of Gold recipients are defined as people who give of themselves unselfishly to serve others, collectively or individually, with volunteer acts of service and/or kindness beyond the call of duty. Any person, regardless of age, who enhances the quality of life of someone else is eligible to be nominated.
Such acts of service may largely go unnoticed and include, but are not limited to: helping senior citizens, helping disadvantaged people, working to improve the quality of education, expanding recreational and cultural opportunities, working with children, protecting the environment, building jobs in the community, promoting public safety and unusual acts of kindness.
When making its choice, the nomination committee will take into account whether the nominee identifies a need and fulfills it; works to create a positive change; inspires others to volunteer; performs an exceptional act of kindness; recognizes opportunities and acts upon them; shares their time and energy for the sake of others; overcomes unusual challenges to serve others; or renders a service that changes a life.
Each Heart of Gold nominee will receive a heart-shaped pin acknowledging their Heart of Gold achievement at the annual Hearts of Gold reception.
More than $5,000 will be awarded to charitable organizations in the names of those who receive the awards. Each award recipient will have the opportunity to direct a grant to the qualified charitable organization of their choice.
Nomination forms are available at Kosciusko County Foundation, 117 W. Center St., Suite B, Warsaw 46580.
