The Kosciusko Community YMCA invites the community to attend a Rock Steady Boxing Open House on Friday, Jan. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Downtown Warsaw YMCA, 575 W. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw.
Rock Steady Boxing is an evidence based, non-contact fitness program specifically designed for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease, according to a news release from the Kosciusko YMCA. Inspired by the training methods of boxing, the program helps participants improve balance, mobility, strength, coordination and overall daily function, while working to slow the progression of symptoms in a safe and supportive environment.
No boxing experience is required. Participants are guided by trained and certified Rock Steady Boxing coaches through structured workouts that may include punching drills using mitts, heavy bags, and speed bags, strength and endurance training, circuit weight exercises, and balance and flexibility movements. All exercises are adapted to each individual’s abilities and comfort level.
More than just a workout, Rock Steady Boxing is a community. The program is designed to empower participants to live stronger, healthier and more confident lives while connecting with others who are on a similar journey.
During the open house, attendees will have the opportunity to learn how the program works, tour the newly developed Rock Steady Boxing space, meet the YMCA’s three certified Rock Steady Boxing coaches, and ask questions about class structure, training methods and what to expect. Staff will also be available to discuss membership and class options.
Individuals interested in enrolling in the program are required to complete a brief assessment. Assessments can be performed during the open house. To schedule an assessment in advance, participants may contact Tracy Frick at tfrick@kcymca.org.
The open house is free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to stop by anytime between 2 and 4 p.m. to learn more about this program.
