Kosciusko Cares Hosts 'Mental Health First Aid' Training

Posted
Kosciusko Cares, a Bowen Center-sponsored prevention initiative, welcomes the public to participate in one of the upcoming eight-hour training sessions on Mental Health First Aid appropriate for anyone in the public.
Similar to medical first aid, Mental Health First Aid teaches individuals how to help those experiencing mental health challenges or crises. The sessions are March 23 and 24, April 27 and 28 and May 18 and 19, at 5 p.m. each night. They will be held in the Syracuse Community Center, 1013 N. Long Drive.
Specialty groups are welcome, including teachers, youth workers, clergy, civic groups, healthcare workers, corporate groups and human resource professionals.
More than one in five American adults will have a mental health problem in any given year, according to the release from Kosciusko Cares. The National Council for Behavioral Health certifies individuals throughout the nation, including Kosciusko Cares, to provide Mental Health First Aid courses to prepare their communities with the knowledge and skills to help individuals who are developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.  Identified on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health  Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices, the training helps the public better identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses, according to Kosciusko Cares.
To register, call Kosciusko Cares at 574-457-5637, email kosciuskocares@gmail.com or pick up a flyer and registration form at the Syracuse Community Center.
