Dr. Hans Kok, coordinator of the Indiana Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative, will be the featured speaker at the annual meeting of the Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District.

The meeting is scheduled for Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at 2517 Restaurant, Warsaw. Advanced tickets are required and can be obtained from the SWCD office at 217 E. Bell Drive, Warsaw, or by calling the office at 574-267-7445, Ext. 3.

Kok will compare land practices, with emphasis on agriculture, between Indiana and his home country, the Netherlands.

Kok received a bachelor's and master's degrees in science from the Agricultural University in the Netherlands, and a doctorate in agricultural engineering from the University of Idaho.

From 2004 to 2009, he worked on a joint appointment between Washington State University and the University of Idaho, covering Extension programming for conservation tillage and bioenergy for both states.

Prior to this role, he worked as a conservation tillage specialist for Monsanto for seven years.

From 1990 to 1998, he worked for the Kansas State Cooperative Extension Service as the state specialist for soil and water conservation.

Kok is currently the coordinator for Indiana's Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative, a program sponsored by the Indiana Conservation Partnership. CCSI promotes a continuous, systematic approach to production agriculture, resulting in improved profitability, soil health and water quality. The program focuses on continuous no-till and strip-till, cover crops, precision farming and nutrient and pest management.
