WINONA LAKE – Kosciusko Lakes and Streams wants to put the spotlight on local waterways.
A student art contest inspired by the lakes and streams, and a calendar featuring winning artwork from past contests, has KLAS doing just that.
The Fifth Annual Wonderful Water Student Art Contest is now open. Artwork is due April 12. The theme is “At Home in the Water.”
As part of this year’s contest announcement, KLAS is selling calendars for 2013 that showcase last year’s winning artwork. Calendars are $5 each.
“We hope the contest and calendar will help us educate and raise awareness about our water resources,” said Anna Burke, KLAS program manager.
Students from Kosciusko County public and private schools in fourth through 12th grade are encouraged to enter, as well as area homeschoolers.
There will be first- ($50), second- ($30) and third-place ($20) prizes selected from four grade categories: 4-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. Winning artwork will be displayed in Mt. Memorial Hall at Grace College from April 22 to May 10.
Winners will be presented with checks at the Northern Indiana Lakes Festival June 8.
This year’s contest is sponsored by Farmers State Bank, Hand Family Foundation, Kosciusko Community Hospital, Lake City Bank, Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners, Louis Dreyfus Commodities, Medtronic, MutualBank, Northern Gases and Supplies, Silveus Insurance Group, The Papers, Tippecanoe Watershed Foundation and Todd Realty.
