KLA Meets To Discuss Anniversary Celebrations

Posted

Members of the Kosciusko Leadership Academy, under guidance of new president Trisha Jenks, met Wednesday to discuss plans for the organization's 25th year of activity.

Shelly Fraley, curriculum director, discussed venue options for the association's anniversary banquet. Fraley said she intended to invite more than 600 people to the ceremony, which includes past alumni as well as this year's upcoming KLA class.

Information regarding each venue's seating capacity and rental cost was to be gathered before an official decision could be made. Fraley also said catering options would play an important role in where the event would take place.

Moderator Steve Grill urged members to use the newly constructed KLA Web site, www.klaconnect.com

Grill said the site could be used to create a "proper culture" by informing both members and the public of upcoming events, old projects and contact information.

Members also discussed additional preparations for the year, such as preparing a final class list and completing and mailing a KLA newsletter.

"In my 22 years with KLA, I don't know if I've more looked forward to a year, and they've all been wonderful," Grill said. "What pleases me is we're one of the few leadership academies that has lasted and improved over the years, and I've always thought that was very special."

Jenks said she looked forward to the year and felt comfortable with how things were progressing.

"It's always been a pleasure to work with the executive committee, students and the sponsoring and hosting organizations," Jenks said. "I'm so impressed with the wealth of knowledge gained through the organization. It's a great tribute to the past and a great opportunity for the future."

Jenks, who moved to Kosciusko in 1996, joined KLA in 2002 as a class member, and acquired the role of president after four years with the organization.

Advisor Jean Northenor said she was pleased with how the group is currently run.

"Everything seems to be right where it should be," Northenor said. "I'm sure (Trisha) will do a great job this year."
