Volunteering at the “Fur Ball” fundraiser for the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County in September wasn’t enough for members of KCK9’s Dog Club. The members decided to raise some money on their own for the shelter. Saturday afternoon, they presented a check for $272 to AWL Executive Director Darla McCammon. McCammon said the dog club members gave agility demonstrations at the Fur Ball. The dogs were well-trained, climbing over ramps, going through tunnels and moving around obstacles. “It was our most successful Fur Ball we ever had and I attribute it a lot to these kids,” McCammon stated. Besides the dog agility demonstrations outside of the Toyota dealership on Ind. 15N, the event also included the “Warsminster Dog Show,” silent and live auctions, food and a presentation by the AWL. “We made a huge presentation on what the shelter is doing,” McCammon said. The average shelter in the United States the same size as the AWL adopts 10 animals a month on average, she reported. Kosciusko’s shelter adopts 50 to 100 animals a month. McCammon was so appreciative of what KCK9’s Dog Club did she wanted to send them gift cards for pizza or something to reward them. The children discussed it, but came back and told McCammon to keep the money for the shelter. They also told her they were going to raise some money on their own for the shelter. After raising the $272, the members of the club presented the check to McCammon at the shelter Saturday. They decided to put it toward the shelter’s building fund as the AWL is looking to expand and improve its current facilities. AWL is at 3489 E. CR 100S, Pierceton. The telephone number is 574-267-3008, and its website is awlwarsaw.com/ Directors of the KCK9’s Dog Club are Tim Collins and Billy Brinkerhuff.
