Kosciusko Community Hospital Monday celebrated its first 40 years and announced a $4.2 million investment to provide the latest in radiotherapy technology.
Representatives from the KCH Board of Trustees, city leaders, administration and volunteers gathered during a ceremony to commemorate 40 years of serving the healthcare needs of Kosciusko County residents.
“Lutheran Health Network KCH has invested over $100 million toward local healthcare services since 1999. We listened to our community members and responded by improving access and offering quality care locally through expanding medical staff, technologies and facilities,” said Kirk Ray, Lutheran Health Network KCH CEO.
It was announced the hospital will acquire True Beam, an innovative system that enables an approach to cancer with image-guided radiotherapy. The equipment was engineered to deliver more powerful cancer treatments with pinpoint accuracy and precision.
‘This new True Beam technology enables us to treat even the most challenging cases with unprecedented speed and precision,” said Dr. Mark Ranck, KCH Cancer Care Center radiation oncologist.
Dr. Musaberk Goskel, KCH Cancer Care Center medical director, discussed the benefits of the technology.
“During the last decade, lung cancer became the leading cause of cancer death for both men and women in the United States. With this new technology being locally available, we anticipate this to make a meaningful difference for lung cancer patients in the community,” Goskel said.
Ray spoke about the investment.
“This $4.2 million investment is a continuation of improving our local healthcare services in addition to over $100 million invested in local healthcare services since 1999. This will provide those stricken with cancer locally the latest in oncology care so that community members can remain here at home for treatment,” Ray said.
