K21 Provides Funding For Livestrong At YMCA

Posted
Beginning in February, the Kosciusko Community YMCA will offer the nationally recognized Livestrong At the YMCA program for people affected by cancer.
According to a press release from the organization, the first year of this program has been fully supported thanks to a $35,000 grant from the K21 Health Foundation.
This evidence-based 12-week physical activity and well-being program is designed to help survivors both during and after cancer treatment to remain active in a safe and supportive environment.
The Y is planning to offer this program to up to 40 participants and their families in this first year, and then hoping to grow it further in the future.
“K21 is excited to partner with the Y in offering this fantastic program to many in our community who are struggling with a diagnosis of cancer,” said Rich Haddad, K21 president and CEO. “In addition, this grant allows family members of the patient to participate in other YMCA programs, and will also extend the membership for the survivor and their family to a full year. It’s a program that helps the entire family.”
Stacy Thomas, Kosciusko Community YMCA director of healthy living, said, “We are very thankful to K21 Health Foundation and their willingness to support our efforts to help cancer survivors and their families improve their health and quality of life.”
In addition to the fitness program, the Y will be starting a support group for cancer survivors and their families, which will meet on the second Monday of each month beginning Feb. 8 at 4:30 p.m. in the Parkview Center for Healthy Living.
