Staff Report-
WINONA LAKE – K21 Health Foundation recently awarded a $200,000 grant toward the construction of Winona Lake Limitless Park. The grant was presented to the Town of Winona Lake, Winona Lake Park Board and the Limitless Park Committee. This grant is directed toward the first of a three-phase renovation that will be coming soon at the current Winona Lake Park location. Winona Lake Limitless Park Committee is a group of volunteers who represent a community-driven project to renovate the current Winona Lake playground into a universally accessible playground and splash pad. Extensive work for planning and development, fundraising, grant writing, and community relations has been done by members of committee over the last two years. In 2011, members of the committee were awarded the Kosciusko Leadership Academy's Northenor Award and granted seed money from a private foundation. In 2012, a memorandum of understanding was formalized between the committee, the Town of Winona Lake and Winona Lake Park Board. The Winona Lake Parks Department has developed a five-year master plan that encompasses the construction of Winona Lake Limitless Park. The design calls for a splash pad, universally accessible playground, year-round family restrooms, landscaping, concrete paths, shaded rest areas, and infrastructure modifications necessary to accommodate park goers. The playground allows for children who require wheelchairs or other medical equipment, children with physical disabilities, children with social and/or emotional difficulties. The tentative timeline and schedule is for: Summer/Fall 2013 Continue Grant Applications, Corporate/Community Fundraising; Spring 2014 Splash Pad Groundbreaking, Corporate/Community Fundraising; Summer 2014 Touch-a-Truck Community Event and Splash Pad Dedication. The timeline also includes: Fall/Winter 2014 Continue Grant Applications, Corporate/Community Fundraising; Spring 2015 Limitless Park Groundbreaking, Community Build Project; and Summer 2015 Limitless Park Dedication.
