Junior Neighbors 4-H Club members stuffed the Kosciusko County Sheriff's van full of donated items designated for the Walter Reed Army Medical Center Fisher Houses.

The club project yielded 36 boxes, duffel bags and suitcases full of snack foods, paid phone cards, magazines, reading materials, pens, pads of paper, games and clothing.

"It was just tremendous, what others gave," said Lorna Schori, a Junior Neighbors assistant leader, this morning. The project began with a letter to the editor from Kay Hatfield a couple of months ago. We had no idea how much we would get. It just kept collecting at the Warsaw American Legion," Schori said.

The Warsaw-based 4-H Club has 34 members and expects more around enrollment time. Schori has been an assistant for 15 years with Hatfield, a 20-year club leader. Recently Hatfield's daughter, Zona Blackburn, has taken over leadership responsibilities.

"I have already talked to Bob (Morrison) this morning. He's just one of the one of the greatest guys. Wal-Mart support has been tremendous. North Webster American Legion members brought so many donations," Schori said.

The van was packed up Saturday morning. In addition to Morrison, American Legion Post 49 Commander Don Nichols and Veterans' Administration service officer Mike Barnett arrived in Washington, D.C., Sunday evening.

The next meeting of the Junior Neighbors is Dec. 14, a Christmas party at the Kosciusko Community Foundation that begins at 7 p.m.
