MILFORD - Julia Frew, a local native, served the Milford community for 21 years as Milford Public Library director, concluding her service Tuesday. Her work over two decades ensured that the library is financially stable and meeting the present-day needs of the community.
Frew developed engaging and popular programming and purchased books and other materials for a diverse and well-utilized collection, according to a provided news release. Some highlights of her tenure included a long-running annual “Lights out at the Library” program, making book characters come alive at Halloween, and a year-long celebration of the library’s 100th anniversary in 2007-08.
While facing legislation and funding changes, technological shifts and other challenges, Frew kept her focus on the library’s core mission to “be a community institution that attempts to meet the informational, cultural, recreational, and educational needs of all the community's residents regardless of age or formal schooling.”
Frew is looking forward to a change of pace and time with her family, including several young grandchildren.
Milford Public Library is at 101 N. Main St., Milford, and online at milford.lib.in.us.
