Judy O'Bannon To Speak At Syracuse

Posted

Judy O'Bannon, wife of Indiana Gov. Frank O'Bannon, will visit Syracuse Elementary School Thursday at 2 p.m.

She will speak to Paula Markley's fourth grade class, which won a recent "Name the Newsletter" contest.

The winning newsletter name is "The Reuse, Renew, Recycle Review."

The newsletter, to be distributed three times a year, promotes awareness about solid waste issues and solid waste educational information for residents of Kosciusko County.

O'Bannon also will present the Kosciusko County Solid Waste District with a 50 percent advance on a $12,572 grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. The money will mostly be used for educational endeavors in the schools and for public education about solid waste and the environment.

"Everyone is very excited about Mrs. O'Bannon's visit, especially the students and staff at Syracuse Elementary," said Marsha Eikenberry, director of the Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District. "We are very pleased that solid waste education and environmental ideas are being presented in Kosciusko County schools."

O'Bannon has spent her life as what she terms a "professional volunteer" in her state and local communities.
