Jazz, Wine to Raise Funds for Pierceton CoC

PIERCETON – A jazz and wine-tasting event to raise funds for the Pierceton Chamber of Commerce is set for Feb. 11 at  6 p.m.

The event will take place at The Old Train Depot, off Ind. 13 in Pierceton.

Kevin Piekarski’s Jazz Trio out of Fort Wayne will perform.

Piekarski has been assistant principal bassist of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic since 1983.

Born in South Bend, he began playing at age 12 and went on to earn his bachelor of music degree from the Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music.

He played with the Dayton Philharmonic from 1981 to 1983 before moving to Fort Wayne.

Piekarski has played with an impressive list of jazz and pop performers, including Gene Bertoncini, Steve Allen, Mel Torme, Roy Clarke, Debbie Boone, Toni Tennile, Maureen McGovern, Diahann Carrol, Andrea Marcovicci, Anne Hampton Calloway, Michael Feinstein, Linda Eder and Wayne Brady. He played in the house band at the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island in summer 1992.

He founded Clark Kent Jazz (now Kevin Piekarski Jazz), which has provided quality entertainment to northeast Indiana for more than 20 years.

In 1996 the Fort Wayne Sister City’s committee invited the Clark Kent Trio to visit Plock, Poland.

While in Plock, the trio performed with internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist Krzysztof Kralka, and with the jazz vocal group Anima from Belarus.

Piekarski is the bass instructor at Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Along with the entertainment provided by Piekarski, hors d’oeuvres will be served by Pat Knott’s Classic Catering.

A silent auction with items from Pierceton businesses also will take place.

Blue Lion’s Coffee Bar also will be on hand.

Those attending are encouraged to bring their own wine glass.

Original fine art by artists from Lakeland Art Association will be on sale.

The cost is $25 before the event and $30 at the door.
