It’s just in time for the great Fat and Skinny Tire Bike Festival weekend, The Island Weaver Grand Opening Celebration is sure to be one of the best stops on a weekend list of things to do. New to The Village at Lake Winona, The Island Weaver is a fiber-arts supply shop and studio celebrating their official Grand Opening Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and they have quite a party planned. Live Sheep: Two breeds of will take center stage, with shearing, carding, spinning and weaving demonstrations scheduled throughout the day. Learn how a sheep’s fuzzy coat becomes the clothing and fabrics we use everyday. (Demos - 10:30 a.m., 12:30p.m., 2:30p.m. and 4:30 p.m.) Fun with Fiber: After learning where fiber comes from, learn about some of the fantastic things you can make with it. Four different Fiber Fun Activities - for all ages - will be ongoing through the day. On the Front Porch: ‘Bloom’ Banner / Tie-Dye Table 1. Needle felt a small part of a Community Banner with the theme: “BLOOM!” 2. Draw designs on fabric with sharpie markers and watch the magic happen when a little rubbing alcohol makes for a super-fun tie-dyeeffect. Knit, Spin, Weave or ‘Dye Table’ On the Shop Floor: Fabric of Intentions / Kid’s Weave Station 3. Write a special prayer or intention on a piece of fabric and weave it into the “Fabric of Intentions” currently on the loom. 4. Kids can throw a weft or two into a special Kid’s Weaving Project, set up on an 11 inch, rigid heddle Cricket Loom.
