SYRACUSE - This year, Wawasee Community School Corporation is excited to launch a brand-new initiative: the Wawasee Schools Community Alliance, a hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience designed to connect community members with the heartbeat of their schools.
The Wawasee Schools Community Alliance will provide selected participants with an inside look at how Wawasee Schools operates, from the classroom to the boardroom, and everything in between, according to a news release from the school corporation.
Whether you’re a parent, business owner, alumnus, retiree or simply someone who cares about the future of Wawasee schools, this program is your chance to understand the "why" and "how" behind the decisions, programs and people that shape the Wawasee experience.
Over the course of eight sessions throughout the school year, cohort members will:
● Learn about district finances, curriculum, operations and student services.
● Tour buildings and facilities, including new construction projects.
● Meet with district leaders, teachers, students and staff.
● Engage in open conversations about education, planning and school culture.
● Gain a deeper understanding of the Warrior Experience and how it drives every aspect of the school corporation’s work.
The release states, “We know that strong schools build strong communities and strong communities build strong schools. The Warrior Community Cohort is about partnership. It’s about transparency. And most of all, it’s about empowering our residents to become informed advocates for public education and active contributors to our district’s continued success.”
Graduates of the program will be invited to stay involved with Wawasee through future project teams, feedback opportunities, committee participation and district events.
Wawasee is looking for individuals who:
● Live within the Wawasee Schools district boundary.
● Are engaged or interested in community service or education.
● Are willing to listen, learn and share what they learn with others.
● Want to be part of shaping the Warrior Experience for future generations.
Participants will be selected to represent a wide range of voices: parents, community leaders, alumni and residents from across our towns.
The program was announced in The Reporter, a district publication, where applications for the first Warrior Community Cohort opened in late July. Cohort sessions will run monthly and require a time commitment of approximately two hours per session. Space is limited to encourage meaningful discussion and interaction.
More details, including the application link and meeting schedule, are available at wawaseeschools.org and shared through the district's social media.
