Intimidation Charge Filed Against Man After Alleged Threats Against StepsonA Claypool man was arrested Monday on an intimidation charge after allegedly threatening to shoot his stepson and firing a gun to scare him off in July.

Keith Alan Brown, 61, of 824 E. CR 800S, Claypool, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 2:27 p.m. Monday for intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony. His preliminary bond was set at $10,250.

On July 8, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy Craig Summers responded to a fight in progress with shots fired at 824 E. CR 800S.

Summers arrived at the scene and spoke with a woman who said she and Brown’s stepson were living in a camper behind his mother’s residence at 824 E. CR 800S. She said they picked up a child and returned to the camper to find the man’s mother was throwing their cats out of the camper and they got into an argument.

Summers spoke with the stepson who said when he and the woman returned to the camper, his mother was intoxicated and was throwing their cats out of the camper. He said his mother punched the woman on the left side of her face. The son intervened and pushed the two women apart.

His stepfather, Brown, saw the disturbance, came outside and started arguing with him. Brown then went back inside the residence and came out with a shotgun. The woman and stepson got into a vehicle to leave and Brown told his stepson to get out of the car so he could shoot him. As the couple were leaving, Brown pointed the gun in the direction of the vehicle and shot into the ground. The child was in the vehicle when Brown shot the gun.

Summers spoke with Brown who said his stepson threatened him and he went inside and got a shotgun. When the couple were leaving, he said he fired a shot into the air to scare them off.

Officers obtained the shotgun and ejected a spent round out of the chamber. There were two shells in the magazine.
