Informational Meeting For Community Theatre Set For May 8

Adults interested in becoming involved in theater will have the opportunity with Center Street Community Theatre.
An informational meeting is scheduled for May 8 at Wagon Wheel Theatre at 7 p.m.
“We are part of Wagon Wheel; we are under the umbrella of Wagon Wheel Theatre,” said Jennifer K. Shepherd, CSCT Leadership Team president. “The Community Theatre started off probably with discussions late last summer. We met initially with about 20 of us who had  been involved with community theater in the past, and I’m talking probably 20 years ago. They just really pulled together all the interested parties to say, ‘How do we meet the needs of our adults in the community? And what might that look like?’”
Out of that 20, five formed a planning group. Along with Shepherd, Jason Dugger is the Leadership Team vice president; Phil Herbruck, treasurer and social media; and Katie Polk and Greg Teghtmeyer, co-secretaries. They’re working under the board of the Wagon Wheel Theatre.
At the informational meeting, Shepherd said, “We will talk about our mission, what our purpose is, our long-term goals if you will, and maybe a vision for the Community Theatre, although we’re obviously open to expanding it in different directions to complement what they’re doing at Wagon Wheel.”
Dugger stated, “As far as the Community Theatre goes, we’re also going to talk about (how) it’s open to everybody. Any aspect of theater that somebody wants to be involved in, from set design to costumes to behind-the-scenes to technology. Anybody with any form of interest that has the availability to do any type of volunteering or just wants to know what’s going on, they’re allowed to come that night (May 8).”
The first show and the director for CSCT also will be announced at the informational meeting, Shepherd reported.
“We plan to also announce an audition schedule. The first show, right now, is scheduled for Oct. 10, 11 and 12,” she said.
Eventually, Shepherd said they want to put on at least two shows a year. It will be a mix of comedies, dramas and musicals.
“We do plan to do a variety of things and that will allow the community to get involved,” she said.
