WINONA LAKE - Housing Authority commissioners will be placing informational door hangers throughout the community May 14.
The hangers have details about the upcoming owner-occupied rehabilitation program. The commissioners will not knock on doors, only leave the information. The program is available to low- to moderate-income families. The commissioners want to make sure all interested citizens apply for the funds.
Housing Opportunities of Warsaw will apply to the Indiana Housing Finance Authority on behalf of the town around June 20 for the new round of grants. The money will be used in combination with other grant monies already received from the USDA Rural Development for housing preservation.
By identifying families in need now, qualifications and environmental reviews can be completed prior to receiving funds. Rehabilitation could begin this summer instead of in the fall or winter.
Homes located in a flood plain are ineligible for the program. If a family lives in a flood plain, have repairs of an emergency nature and are low- to moderate-income, they should contact HOW.
For more information, call HOW and ask for Missy Crawford-Smith, 574-269-7641.
