Independent write-in U.S. presidential candidate Jill Reed made a stop in Warsaw Friday to discuss her run for the seat.
Reed, 54, is a resident of Casper, Wyo., where she was born and raised. She has two grown sons.
Reed filed with the Federal Election Commission in August 2011 as a write-in candidate.
Reed has served as an independent professional landman for the past 30 years in Wyoming. A geologist finds minerals in the ground, and a landman reads the legal documents and determines who owns the minerals.
She also operated her own coffee business, Jilly Beans Coffee, for 10 years from 2000 to 2010 and sold it it 2010.
She said she feels the federal budget should be cut in half and if elected she will do that.
When asked what made her decide to run for president she said a love for her country.
She said in second grade she fell in love with the president’s role.
“I knew right then and there I wanted to be president,” Reed said.
She said she has been on trains since Columbus Day a year ago meeting with constituents.
This is Reed’s first time seeking political office.
“People’s wealth is what matters in a country and poverty never works in a nation and politics has caused poverty,” Reed said.
She said every law, rule and regulation that the political side of greed made by lawmakers drives the standard of living down.
She said right now a president’ role is to legislate lives in an anti-progress and anti-success government.
Reed said she is pro-progress and pro-success and supports limited government.
She said the president’s role should be protection of the people.
“The people in the nation then rise up through freedom to solve the economy that a government cannot do,” Reed said.
Reed said business is what builds wealth in a country.
Reed was asked what her thoughts on ObamaCare are and she does not support it and described it as a “forced situation.”
She said one adult should not control another person’s healthcare decisions.
“The other two parties work hard to govern our lives and tell us how to spend our paychecks, I am not like that,” Reed said.
Reed wears a temporary tattoo on her wrist that says “Wealth, Health and Peace.”
She said these are imperative for every individual to have and said without them a person is lacking the ability to provide for themselves.
She spoke about the computer industry.
“We are looking at anti progress, anti success and a government should not legislate people’s lives,” Reed said.
She also addressed the national debt issue.
“When I cut the federal budget in half, debt quits rising,” Reed said.
She said when she takes the government to the role of protection only all of the assets that are based on not protecting the people will be sold off to the highest bidders.
Those funds will be used to start paying off the debt.
She said that includes those who have paid into Social Security through their own money.
Funds will be given back to them with interest.
She said all previous administrations have taxed the people and that has continued to increase.
“When I return us to a proper role of protection only, taxes won’t go up and debts will not increase,” Reed said.
When asked about foreign policy Reed said the U.S. needs to look at its own country and decide how well it is doing as opposed to how the U.S. might help or hurt another country.
