An Illinois woman involved in a motorcycle crash Thursday in Kosciusko County has died.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office confirmed Paula M. Harwood, 39, Bourbonnais, Ill., died Thursday at 3:32 p.m. from head injuries she received Thursday after a motorcycle crash in eastern Kosciusko County.
Harwood was flown by Samaritan helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Harwood was a passenger on a Honda Goldwing motorcycle that was being driven by her husband, Thomas C. Harwood, 44, Bourbonnais. Harwood’s rear tire had a “blow-out,” causing it to immediately skid and then flip on U.S. 30 near CR 450E, according to two separate witnesses.
Paula Harwood was apparently struck by the motorcycle as it was rotating. Thomas Harwood also was seriously injured as he struck the pavement.
Thomas Harwood was listed in serious but stable condition early this morning at Parkview Regional Hospital.
Neither Hardwoods had been wearing helmets at the time of the crash and alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
The Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team stated the crash is still under investigation at this time pending legal blood draw results as required by Indiana state law.
Kosciusko County FACT was assisted at the scene by the Pierceton Fire Department, Multi-Township EMS, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police.
