PIERCETON – Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested an Illinois man Sunday at Jellystone Campground on felony battery charges after he allegedly seriously injured a Columbia City woman in an argument over a clothes dryer. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies and emergency personnel responded Sunday at 11 a.m. to a laundry/restroom facility at the Jellystone Campground at 1916 N. CR 200N, Pierceton, after receiving a call of an injured 24-year-old Columbia City woman. Officers arrived and summoned detectives after the woman told them she had been battered severely by a male subject identified as Michael Patrick Zimny, 54, Glenwood, Ill., according to a release from the sheriff’s department. The woman was transported from the scene to a Fort Wayne hospital reportedly in critical condition shortly after the time of the incident. Detectives were provided preliminary information that the victim had entered into the laundry area where a confrontation ensued over the use of one operable clothes dryer. The woman was reportedly injured in the front temple area of her skull during the confrontation and eventually went unconscious as she attempted to return to her campsite. KCSD officers located and arrested Zimny on a preliminary charge of felony aggravated battery with substantial risk of death. Zimny is currently being held without bond on a prosecutorial hold by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
