WINONA LAKE – Bicycle enthusiasts participated in the 10th annual Fat and Skinny Tire Festival Saturday and Sunday in Winona Lake.
There were kids bicycle events, as well as bike tours of the town, and bike and road races.
Brandon Gobel, Chicago, participated in the morning 19-mile ride tour of Winona Lake.
He learned about the festival from a distributor that makes cargo bikes that he rode.
He goes to Denmark every year for the Cargo Bike race, and said he enjoyed Saturday’s festival in Winona and said it is a bike-friendly area.
Kay Ohta, Kentucky, did a 65-mile ride Saturday during the festival.
“This is a great atmosphere and the camaraderie of being around other cyclists is the nicest thing,” Ohta said.
Bill and Cait Ruhling, Pennsylvania, rode a Tandem bike they’ve had for 10 years
“There are nice and quiet roads here, and to come to an organized ride you know there are other people here doing the same thing,” Cait said.
Emily Andrews, Elkhart, participated in the women’s 9.7-mile bike race.
“I like the course because there is a varied ability in the course with logs and rocks,” Andrews said.
Bruce Pisarek, Ohio, did the 30-mile race.
“This is a fast-flowing and wide-open course and is a fun trail,” Pisarek said.
