Now that Edgewood Middle School Assistant Principal Tracy Horrell has been named the District 2 State Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year, he will go on to compete for the state title. At the Warsaw School Board meeting Monday night, Warsaw Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Craig Hintz announced they recently learned Horrell was selected as the 2013 Secondary Assistant Principal from Indiana Association of School Principals District 2. District 2 includes Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall, Pulaski, St. Joseph and Starke counties. Horrell will be recognized by the IASP Nov. 23 in Indianapolis, Hintz said. “We’re very proud of Tracy,” Hintz said, and added that it’s a testament to Horrell’s commitment to the school corporation, school and students. “He’s a true professional in every sense of the word.” After Hintz presented Horrell with a certificate for his accomplishment, Horrell thanked the school board for the opportunity to be recognized. He said he was inspired by the school corporation’s mission statement that it’s working toward. Horrell has been with WCS for 16 years, with the last six years serving as assistant principal at Edgewood. District Secondary Assistant Principals of the Year are elected by their peers. One principal is honored from each of the 12 districts, according to a press release provided by the school corporation. From these 12 winners, one will be announced as the 2013 State Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year at the Nov. 23 luncheon.
