Staff Report-
Kosciusko County Community Foundation has provided a grant for $1,000 to the Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry 2014 Meat Donation Program. The grant will pay all processing fees for donated meat in Kosciusko County, which is then distributed to area hunger relief agencies. One in four households in Indiana with children report an inability to be able to afford enough food to feed their family, according to the grant announcement from Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry. According to Feeding Indiana’s Hungry, over 30 percent of all Indiana residents regularly have to choose between buying food and paying bills, the announcement states, adding that protein is the number one nutrient fundamental for brain and body development but is also the hardest commodity for food banks to obtain. Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry encourages hunters and farmers to donate large game and livestock to one of their participating butchers to be processed, picked up by local hunger relief agencies and distributed within the community in which it was donated and where funding is available. Five Oaks Deer Processing, Syracuse, received and processed all of the venison for this grant, which is expected to provide almost 3,000 meals to Kosciusko County residents in need, according to the announcement.
