With snow on the ground, it may be difficult to think about spring. The 2003 Home Lawn and Sport Show, which starts Thursday, may jumpstart ideas for home remodeling, landscaping, water sports and other spring and summer activities.
Carol Huffer, executive director of the Kosciusko-Fulton County Builders Association, said, "This year's show is bigger and better than last year's. We have 165 vendors and 245 booths, compared to 140 vendors and 147 booths last year, and everything from concrete to chocolate."
The show opens Thursday in the former Wal-Mart building, U.S. 30E, Warsaw. This year's expanded hours are: Thursday, noon to 8 p.m.; Friday, noon to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults over age 16; children age 15 and under are free.
Huffer said, "New this year is an area for demonstrations throughout Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Demonstrations will include: repairing drywall, putting on door knobs, a Deb Collier dance troupe, faux finishing walls, recycling, lawn care and composting."
For the home, Huffer said, "Highlights include creative concrete work inside and out, outdoor furniture, a designer of environmentally friendly homes, new types of water heaters and new bath fixtures.
"There's even 'fun stuff,' like a chocolate company, a candy company, Scouts, 4-H and greyhounds from Greyhound Pets of America. The Coats for Kids playhouse, built by Doug Harvey, Copeland Construction, will be on display in the parking lot. Tickets may be purchased for the playhouse, which will be raffled off at the Homes on Parade in the fall."
For the yard, there will be tractors, lawnmowers and fresh blooming flowers as well as overall landscaping. For those who like to play outside, there are jet skis, all-terrain vehicles and custom fishing equipment.
Visitors to the show can sign up for a three-person hot tub, given away by Glamour Pools, and a $1,000 landscaping package from Creative Gardens Nursery. Many items will be for sale, including food from Boss Hogg, punch and shaved ice.
